Generative artificial intelligence, writers and translators

FIT and PEN

Just as the Danish Association of Certified Translators Translators' Association, DACTI,  is a member of the International Federation of Translators and Interpreters - FIT, Danish PEN is a member of PEN International. I am active in both, at national level and at international level

The two international organizations have overlapping focus, still different profiles. The shared focus is language and the right to express oneself: language, authorship, translation, interpretation, indigenous languages, minoritized languages, the status of languages, freedom of expression.

My ultimate goal is to pave the way for a cooperation agreement between FIT and PEN International.

I am the  Vice Chair of FIT's "External Relations Standing Committee" and a  FIT's board member. In PEN International, I am active in the "Translation and Linguistic Rights Committee" (TLRC).

Generative AI

Given the shared focus, members of both organizations are naturally also confronted with developments in generative artificial intelligence. This was particularly evident at an event in Denmark on International Mother Language Day on February 21, where both the Translators' Association and Danish PEN participated.

Translators in Strabourg, October 2024

Also 350 translators gathered in Strasbourg discussed Artificial Intelligence. PEN International/TLRC took part. Read the report, see the  videos and the pictures:

The first European Conference on Literary Translation
The Translation and Linguistic Rights Committee of PEN International has a cooperation agreement (a MOU) with CEATL, the organizers of this conference. Therefore TLRC/PEN International was also invited to sit on a panel, "Translation as a Political Act". TLRC was also invited to sit on the organizing committee.
I had the honor to represent TLRC/PEN International. Now videos, reports, etc. have been published from the conference. In the report, TLRC/PEN Internation was on panel 5. There is also a video.

The first European Conference on Literary Translation
